The war in Eastern Europe has escalated further as Ukraine launched a new wave of long-range drone strikes deep into Russian territory this week.

Ukrainian defense officials confirmed that drones targeted fuel depots and military supply lines near Belgorod and Kursk, disrupting Russia’s logistics. Satellite imagery shows widespread damage at one fuel storage facility.

In response, Russia intensified its missile and artillery barrages on key Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv, Odessa, and Zaporizhzhia. Local authorities reported widespread power outages and civilian casualties, with at least 24 people killed in the latest strikes.

Analysts suggest that Ukraine’s growing reliance on drone technology reflects its efforts to level the battlefield, given limited ammunition and delays in Western arms supplies.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts remain stalled. Peace talks mediated by Turkey and the UN broke down last month after both sides refused to compromise on territorial claims.

NATO leaders have pledged continued support for Kyiv, with additional funding and defense systems expected later this year. However, concerns are rising over war fatigue in Europe and the growing global economic impact of the prolonged conflict.

Experts warn that 2025 could mark a turning point in the war, with both sides escalating their strategies while civilian suffering deepens.
