The campaign for the Malava parliamentary seat has intensified dramatically with Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale taking a firm stand for “a son of the soil.” In a passionate address, Khalwale formally endorsed Seth Panyako of the DAP-K party, framing the by-election as a choice between local development and external interference.
Khalwale positioned Panyako as a candidate with deep roots and a clear understanding of Malava’s needs, while launching a fierce broadside against the Democratic Congress Party (DCP). He labeled the DCP and its aspirant as political interlopers with no lasting commitment to the constituency, urging voters to reject what he termed “political conmen” seeking to exploit the community.
This endorsement is a powerful move to consolidate the Luhya vote around a single strong candidate and is seen as a direct challenge to the influence of both ODM and the newcomer DCP in the region. The by-election is now poised to be a referendum on local identity and who truly represents the future of Malava.
