Kipkemoi Kibias Appointed Acting CEO of KETRACO

In a significant development within Kenya’s energy sector, Kipkemoi Kibias has been appointed as the Acting CEO of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO), effective September 19, 2025. The KETRACO Board of Directors, in consultation with the Chief of Staff & Head of Public Service and the Cabinet Secretary for Energy & Petroleum, announced the leadership change. Kipkemoi Kibias brings over 20 years of experience in the power sector to his new role. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, an MBA in Strategic Management from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, and a Master’s in Nuclear Power Plant Engineering from KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School in South Korea. Prior to his appointment, Kibias served as the General Manager for System Operation & Power Management at KETRACO, where he was instrumental in overseeing the company’s operations and power management strategies. His extensive experience and technical expertise position him well to lead KETRACO during this transitional period.

The leadership change at KETRACO is expected to influence the company’s strategic direction and its role in Kenya’s energy infrastructure development. Stakeholders within the energy sector are keenly observing how Kibias’s leadership will shape the future of electricity transmission in Kenya.
