Kenya has lost one of its brightest athletics stars, Jairus Kipchoge Birech, who passed away on September 18, 2025, at the age of 32. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed. Birech was renowned for his achievements in the 3000m steeplechase, including a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and a gold medal at the 2014 African Championships. He also secured the 2014 Diamond League title and clocked a personal best of 7:58.41, ranking him among the top ten fastest steeplechasers of all time.
